The no-makeup makeup trend is just about everywhere you look at the moment, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. Finally, my “lazy makeup” is now considered cool, and I have endless sources for recommendations on what to try. The scale of my beauty routine is as such: no makeup (most days), a dash of tinted moisturizer and a swipe of boy brow, and at the most, what the average beauty bloggers would consider their “five-minute easy makeup routine.” My goal is always to look like myself, but better, and ideally like I’m not wearing any makeup at all.
Beauty products fall into two categories for me. The ones that make me think, “well, you do the trick” and others where just holding them brings me joy, and I think to myself “I love you! I don’t need to spend any time looking elsewhere to replace you!” This list is made up of the latter products:
Embryolisse Lait-Créme Concentré— This is by far my favorite moisturizer and most days I use it as a primer too. It’s the perfect lightweight product, that leaves my face feeling moisturized, but not heavy. It’s also only made up of five ingredients, all of which are things I recognize, like shea butter and aloe vera. Every time I use it, I feel very French (major bonus) and like I’m nurturing my skin.
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer— This is a cult favorite that I’m surprised I don’t see people talking about more often. I’ve been hearing quite a lot about the Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint, and to me, this is a much better version of that. A small amount of the Laura Mercier provides the same light coverage as the Perfecting Skin Tint, but it’s also buildable, and a gives you a lovely glow. It is twice the price, but it does more and it lasts forever. I will admit my bias here- this is the first foundation that I ever loved, and I feel like it will always have a soft spot in my heart, but it’s deserved!
It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream — This is my current favorite foundation. I’ve recently had to cut mine in half to scoop out the remaining product because I desperately need to place a Sephora order for more. The coverage here is going to be a lot more than the Laura Mercier, but when applied with a damp beauty blender, it just soaks right into the skin without looking heavy or cakey at all. Every time I wear this, I just feel like it’s my skin, but SO MUCH BETTER. Is anything better than that good skin confidence?
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder— This powder is so beautiful and finely milled that it provides the perfect counterpart to a light foundation. It settles so lightly onto the skin, minimizing your pores and giving your complexion a gentle glow. No heavy powder look here.
RMS Beauty Living Luminizer— On days that I’m just wearing a light foundation, I love to dab some of this onto the high points of my face and under my brow bone. It’s a 100% natural product, which I love, and makes your face look bright and fresh.
Glossier Boy Brow— When I’m hardly wearing any makeup, the one thing that makes me feel the most pulled together is my brows. I have thin, spotty brows, so I usually fill them in a bit with a powder or the It Cosmetics Universal Brow Pencil, and then I’ll take a good bit of Boy Brow and do my best to give myself effortless Instagram brows.
Glossier Coconut Balm Dot Com— On a rare full moon I’ll wear lipstick, but every other day you’ll find me slathering on balm dot com like it’s going out of style. I’m addicted to chapstick (no truly, I’m worried that my lips have become addicted to chapstick. I hear this is a thing) and this is my favorite. It doesn’t hurt that the packaging is so darn cute that I don’t mind displaying it on my desk, vanity, and nightstand, and pulling it out of my purse at restaurants.
What are your thoughts on the No-Makeup Makeup trend? I still have quite a few products that I use while searching for their holy grail counterparts, so if you have any favorite beauty products, I would love to hear them so I can give them a try! I’m currently on the hunt for a natural mascara to replace my Benefit Roller Lash- any favorites?
